04/11/14 – Oak Hill Shrimping Report Florida

Capt Lee enjoys shrimping in Oak Hill Florida, the shrimping Capital of Florida. Her reports are both informative and educational.

MacDaddy 3 light deployment

My shrimping lights I used were (two) GW 75/75 MacDaddy (150 Led’s) with the green and white strip. I fired off both strips.

My light configuration was 9pm and 3 pm set. Imagine looking at a clock. Look at numbers 1 and 2 of the diagram.

I deploy a sacrificial light at 6 pm (note number 3 on diagram) to blow up the fat daddy’s from the bottom. I sink the light really low and do not rely on this light to dip.

Just got up, have to do some gear deliveries, prep for flea market and clean 5 gallons of shrimp.

Set up south of CM 6, choked down 150 yards in front my stream was great, got weak most of night and strong again once boaters left.

Could have limited quick but chose to cull out dinks and 4″ or less. Incoming tide flurries but high percent small.

Still nice size shrimp mixed in but the Oak Hill dinks are here and were not a week ago.

Chose to stay till 5 am solo to dip larger ones and let dinks grow up to be cowboys.

At 57, going solo setting a full light set, 2 anchors, frame net calibrated with a “steering” led MacDaddy shrimp light is a lot of work. Worse part is long sail back to the dock, clean up and getting the boat up on cables before heading home. I rent a dock, and the work begins at the dock after pissing off your back and other extremities. But, its the passion for this sport that drives me and I will expect to be raiding the rivers for another 15 years.
