Dip Net Buyer Beware – There are many dip nets on the market that range from $65 – $95 dollars. Not all shrimp dip nets are created equal, so let us educate in those features that are important. The big box stores are cheaper but the construction is flimsy with a lower grade mono bag.
Capt Lee demands performance with all her gear including dip nets that have the black cincher for fast net emptying. She is not a fan of clear tubing to close the bottom of the net because it chafes the mono-filament which will lead to failure or holes.
We ship hundreds of rims with socks to S. Florida and they go to Home Depot and get an unger painting pole with lifetime guarantee. They attach it to the little 6 inch guide on pipe and screw it together.
We recommend the following in a shrimping dip net
- A dip net YOU can put a replacement sock on yourself
- op size NOT to exceed 30″, adult size
- Hoop size 24″ for children
- Hoop rim nice round shape
- Hoop solid metal and NOT hollow metal bar
- 8 foot handle with cane tip
- Shrimp sock is threaded on the hoop and NOT sewn on with colored thread
- Re-enforced brace at neck stem to reduce hoop flexing on strong tide
- 14 lb mono test weight
- Quick release hardware at end of sock for easy dumping that does not damage mono
- Sock length of 7 foot, go no less than 6 foot
- 1 continuous sock (not pieced together and sewn together creating seams); seams will back the shrimp out of the net.
- Can ship the rim & sock (NO HANDLE)
