Shrimp Lights For Sale

Shrimp Lights For Sale

Shrimp lights for sale type ads litter the internet as well as take up a lot of shelf space in local bait stores. Some are sold on price points and others are sold on performance. There is no big box store that sells a decent shrimp AKA night fishing light based on performance. You get what you pay for, and when it comes to fishing lights you need to be more particular and most importantly, educated.

Breaking News August 2016

Shrimp lights for sale prior to the release of the MacDaddy Smart Light™ have been made of PVC tubes and garage built from parts bought on-line or big box retail store. The sport of shrimping demands a product more technical and sophisticated. The very person who brought shrimping to the front lines has taken the shrimping light to a whole new level.

Capt Lee Noga invented the 3rd LED generation fishing and shrimping light, “MacDaddy Smart Light™”. To be released in the fall of 2016, multiple patents pending. For more information, click here. A light with commercial retail appeal built in a factory packed with state of the art technology. Finally, a shrimping light with great sophistication, function and high definition light fields.

I demand performance that gives me the advantage. Every light before this one, fell short on so many levels.”, says Capt Lee Noga

Capt. Lee Noga, Pro angler and face for the sport for shrimping uses the the green & white LED MacDaddy Smart Light™.  She prefers the white and green hybrid LED lights and always chooses to fire off both colors at the same time. This gives both a horizontal top water glow diameter and vertical depth to cut through dirty water to catch more shrimp deeper in the water column.

Want To See Light Field?

In this video clip the old technology PVC tube, spiral wrapped LED lights were used in this video. This will give you some idea of a dual color shrimping light. The shrimp lights for sale have evolved away from the PVC chunky design. The high tech smart light emits a high definition light field requiring less amps and lumens.

Light Deployment Tips

How To Deploy Fishing Light

The #1 mistake I see on the river is a poor light field that I refer to as a “kill zone”. Shrimpers tend to deploy the lights with no thought and where they land. To them the light is nothing more than a light source so they can see.  Let me give you some of the trending facts & tips we know to be true.

  • Throw your weighted lights to the bottom of the river, do not hang the lights over side of boat. If you do you will drive the shrimp under your boat . This is called top down lighting and this is a poor way to deploy a shrimp light.
  • Choose a spiral wrapped LED shrimp light design,
  • These green/white shrimp lights are for sale at Marker 69.
  • Pull your light field in so the outer edge touches your boat
  • Do not leave any dark spots in your light field unless you want the shrimp to go there
  • #1 Issue – Lights are to high in water column, sending shrimp away from the boat
  • Winter shrimp HATE Light, they even shun the Full Moon which is natural light
  • Green lights are used so you can stare at them for 6 hours without migraines
  • Shrimp are NOT attracted to light, bait fish are
  • Set your lights DEPTH – 8 = Amount of line let out between weight and light.

Note: Example –> Depth (12 ft) – 8 = 4 foot of line clipped off above weight.

Shrimp Lights For Sale & Deployment Strategies

PHYSICS of LED

I discovered in 2010 that a spiral LED light design provided the ability to configure these lights to manipulate the shrimp into my dip and frame nets. This discovery alone changed the face of this sport in 2010. The Academy went on to do a 13 stop tour in 2013 through out Central Florida teaching the art and science behind this sport.

Skill replaced luck, which fueled the addiction to chasing these river crickets. What used to be coined “frustrating” sport requiring a lot of luck to entertain “old people” turned into a desired sport of challenge and skill that appeal to all ages & genders.

I am a fan of the super bright 150 LED light, 1.9 amps per color and it has both the white and green led strip.

The problem with fluorescent lights is the way the light is diffused. They typically lay horizontal on the bottom blowing light as a solid curtain from the bottom to the top water. This lacks the ability to manipulate the shrimp and can cause them to run just out of reach on the darker borders of your light field. Halogen lights are not battery friendly and also do not allow you to manipulate the shrimp. If you buy the $20 lights at retail stores, add 25 foot of cord and rig them so they light from the bottom. Do not add a sprite bottle or green tint, this mutes the light and does NOT attract the shrimp.

But, these types of lights are the most affordable and many do not want to invest in this sport before going out and getting a feel of the sport first. I highly recommend you go out with charter Captains who guide shrimp trips, call Capt Frank Brownell at (386)-690-4761 (Central Florida)
