All kinds of great information about shrimping. Want to try this weekend although i know it is late in the season and the water is warming. We are down by JB's but would probably trailer to Edgewater around 7 pm Friday night and anchor there south along the ICW for action. Anyway this is what i got from other posts. Question, don't want to spring for the mega equipment yet. Trying to find a couple of cheap lights to hang over the side (like i did when i was a kid) and a couple of nets that will work. Does anybody rent this stuff? Is there stores in the Orlando to New Smyrna area that might have this equipment used or on sale? i appreciate any help i can get. I never heard of anyone renting shrimping equipment but you never know. Call Anchor Hardware in Oak Hill and see if they rent nets, can't hurt. As for lights thats a delicate area. I have 2 green flouresants for sale if you decide to take the plunge. They are 18" and $75. a piece. There are several types of inexpensive lights, the starfires at Walmart. They do use a lot of battery power so never hook them up to your crank battery. The flouresant and LED's we use don't drain your battery at all. For me I always take out 2 extra batteries to hook up our 3 lights . Please bring on all the questions we will have answers for you. Again welcome aboard.

Do follow Fish Ons advice though and use a seperate battery to power these. Unfortunately I only have 1 net and I may be using it Saturday nite. I am in New Smyrna near the City Golf course. We have been chasing reds and trout around the inter-coastal for 2 years now with little to some success. Know my boat isn't' exactly suited for flats but is will float with the best of them. My son is turning sixteen next week so he asked to go shrimping with some buddies (quiet). So here we go Friday night for the first time. I am looking around in Orlando for some lights and will also be on the hunt for a couple of nets. I will definitely contact you if I can't find any lights though. Am i close on the times and place for outgoing tide? Read the charts and factor for Edgewater so seems ok.

Posts: 3521 05/05/10 02:01 PM - 1 Limits 2012 - 4 Limits 2011	The tide for Saturday nite at Edgewater is almost perfect it should start out about 9:00 and run til about 3:00 AM. You should try to get there while its still light out since this is your first outing and its likely to be crowded around there Saturday nite and this will probably be the last good chance at some good sizes for this season Craig

It can be frustrating sometimes, but my wife really is pretty good about me going fishing/shrimping. It just happens to probably be the last attempt on the shrimp with a near perfect tide for the pier. Oh well, I guess all of the stars didn't line up this time. Oh by the way, 1000 kids? Lee, you're going to get a reputation!

Should recognize us though, six boys 15's and me in a 23' Hurricane Deck Boat. Got to lights and two nets at Gander. Spent around $130 for everything. If this works out we will be lookin for some "real" lights next season.

Great you are on your way to a boat load of fun, you might want to grab a bike helmet for yourself though, six 15 year olds swingin long handled nets could be hazardous to ones healthLOL!!! Greenhorn Posts: 6 05/12/10 10:15 AM	Had a great time Friday night the 7th at Edgewater. Got out about 8:30 then tried to hook up outside the ramp. Apparently there is a distance rule to those who get their first that i was unaware of. Anyway, thought we were far enough away but moved south a bit and retied. Fun to watch the boys try to dip the nets in the current then whack each other with the poles. I layed low. Only got about 3 dozen shrimp but know there is a few things we need to do in the future including colder water. Thanks for all the help and generosity from this forum. I will continue to support you guys because I think you have a really great thing going. We also fish in the lagoon and have yet to do very well. We will keep reading and trying though.
