Posts: 48 05/07/10 08:09 PM Captain USCG Licensed	Well, Now I guess I'm Captain Mark (Boatwrench) Crews. Just got my ticket, but I'm not a charter Captain. I own Daytona Marine Service, which is a mobile boat repair service, from Ormond to Oak Hill. If I travel out of that area, I just have to charge a little more, for time and fuel....I'm getting my towing endorsement; FCC License, and 25 Ton Masters License shortly...I plan on eventually moving boats up and down the coast for owners... If anyone on the site has a mechanical question, and I can help without being there; advice is free, glad to help......My policy is that if I can't repair it, and have to refer you to a dealer, then you don't pay for my time.....

Next month, I'm upgrading to the 100 ton license with the towing endorsement! By Aug. I should be a full fledged, card carrying Captain.

Posts: 8 01/07/11 10:19 AM Captain/Retired Mount Dora	Back in 1991 ish I figured I would go take the capt test with no classes etc, just going through books on my shelf, if I failed I would then know what to study. Did not understand the sign up paperwork ended up testing for the 100 ton masters and barely passed the first time no class's etc. Since I did it just to show customs officials as I bummed around on a sailboat ( credibility at my tender age, I did get a lot more respect after they saw my lisc) I never officially put it to use. Every renewal it was downgraded in some way until I just let it be a 6 pak expired in 2004. Congrats Frank!!! Put it to use or lose it................I regret letting it expire, but at the time was settling down and making $$ ashore. Hauling barges up and down the ICW is starting to look good. Congrats

Posts: 57 01/20/11 08:17 PM Captain USCG Licensed PONCE-NSB - 1 Limits 2011	My name is Captain Greg Rodgers. I got my ticket almost two years ago. I hold a OUPV and a towing endorsement. I plan on upgrading to masters this year. From what I have been told the Coasties are taking the towing endorsement away from OUPV and will require a masters. I work full time for Centurylink Telco. I work one or two weekends a month for SeaTow in the St. Johns River in Sanford to Debary. If you see me out there dont hesitate to say hello. I have lived in Central FL. for 10 years. I started fishing saltwater when my Dad moved the family to Jacksonville. By 16 I was towing the boat to Mayport by myself and heading offshore fishing the beach for Kingfish. Thats when I got hooked. I spent every dime I could get on fishing. I dedicated all my time and energy into mastering kingfishing techniques. I learned to read the water, fish the tides and pick the moon phase that I wanted. I began fishing SKA (Southern Kingfish Association) tournements at 20 years old. The team and I finished 4th in the division earning a trip to nationals where we finished 12. ll of that on our first year ever fishing tournaments. I continued fishing SKA tourn. until 97 when I had to get a real job and was traveling, putting a end to my addiction for a few years. Once I settled down in Orange City I set out to learn the waters of the Lagoon. Several hundred redfish and thousands of trout later I moved my target area to NSB. I started night time dock fishing. Now that was a real bad addiction, it was not unusual to catch 30-40 snook in one tide all on plastic baits. The trick was all in the presentaion the right size leader and knowing wich docks held which fish. The freeze in Jan. 2010 put a end to Snook fishing in this area. I also heard a crazy story when I moved here about people dipping shrimp. I told the guy who first told me this he was full of shit. I grew up throwing a cast net on shrimp in the St. Johns and thought for sure that was the only way to catch them. Shrimping is now another addiction that I have aquired. When I wasnt dock fishing I was in the offshore waters digging and probing zeroing in on the bounty of the sea. I absolutley love the fight of a offshore fish. From Billfish to Snapper to Cudas there is just something about it that makes you feel alive and intune with nature. I am looking forward to meeting you guys out on the water somewhere or sometime. I ran charter boats out of Port Canaveral till 2002 mostly my own boats named the Intense and the last boat I ran for other owners a 55 ocean named the Last Call. Been out of that game and the tournament game for awhile but most of my friends are still trying to make a go at it and on the commercial side of things. If anyone has a question about offshore just post it up I'll do my best to point you in the right direction. I still fish offshore some and keep my nose in it but I accomplished more in the charter and tournament fishing than I could have ever asked for so I'm pretty much done with that at this point. There is such a thing as burnout after 15yrs of hard at it.

While my major career was with the Fire Department and I retired as Assistant Chief of Seminole County in 2009 I have fished the saltwter areas of the Florida East Coast since my father started taking me in the 60's and also commercial fished for numerous years back in the early 80's. Over the past several years we have expanded our fishing knowledge with trips to Alaska and recently this year in June to Panama where I was lucky enough to boat several trophies including a 243 lb Yellowfin tuna and a 48 lb Cubera Snapper. We have also taken our 33 Contender to the Tortugas, several trips to the Middle Grounds, fish the "Otherside" out of Port Canaveral and head to the Bahamas once in a while when there is enough "extra" in the savings account. Our favorite offshore location is out of Ponce and we fish the lagoon area from Ponce inlet to Tutusville in the small boat an 18 ft Baycraft. My wife is also an avid fisherman as well as flyrodder and belongs to several women's fly organizations. We both like to head west for scallops in the summer and have shrimped the Oak Hill area since I was about 6 years old- However, cast netting at Ormond was a first for me this year and now we are hooked. I am also affiliated with the Central Florida Offshore Anglers club in Orlando www.MyCFOA.com having served in the capacity as vice President and President the last 5 years. Through that organization we have been fortuate enough to raise mney to donate to Dolphinfish tagging ptograms, Reef building off Port Canaveral, The Snoolk Foundations, Kids Fishing Clinics, Teen Anglers, Paralyzed Veterans Fish Tournamanet, Edgewood Children's Ranch Fish Tournament, Casting for Recovery Breast Cancer program and others. As well, I have been seen frequently testifying at our Federal Fisheries Management Public input hearings. While I hold my USCG license as well as my TWIC card, NOAA permits for South Atlantinc Captian, Wahoo/Dolphon, Grouper/Snapper as well as keep my Fla 10 person license up to date I prefer NOT to charter and only take a trip occasionally as overflow as a fovor for some other guys in the business. Thankfully, I receive a retirement check each month and I do not want to compete with those guys outthere that need the income from taking trips. Both our Boats are Keylime Green and are the T's Me and the T's Me Baby! If you see us on the water- give us a shout and a wave and introduce yourself! Tight lines..................
