I suppose a pretty basic question and I see the conversion chart but maybe I just didnt have enough coffee this morning after trying to shrimp last night. We always launch out of riverbreeze and never go far, most of the time we just launch go to the right and get behind the channel marker next to river breeze park. Since I have always redfished for years launching out of eddie creek and biolab I have never really had to pay attention to tides, If I did I was fishing playalinda which tide charts are always spot on.
Of course this is my problem and simple question for you guys. the start of high to low was at 6 according to noaa and everything for ponce inlet, We get out to river breeze and we were all happy it is empty aside (super bowl) from some aholes on the island further up (Not kidding when I say at one point the guy pulls out a chainsaw to cut down a tree for firewood). Our one problem is, without looking at the marker post, we anchor and start to float past the channel marker. I think we sat there for a good 2 hours trying to figure it out what was going on, High to low , it should be draining out of ponce and going in the other direction. it gets around 10 something (probably closer to 11) and finally it hits slack tide and eventually goes the other way. Then we notice everyone is arriving and we know we are not understanding something, I was going to ask one of the capt's launching out but didnt want to make an ass of myself.
So,
Does it really take 5 hours for the tides to be effected at riverbreeze? (I see you guys have a conversion chart) We were doing okay once the tide changed but kinda had it after sitting for so long, so left. Hauling a boat from wekiva to riverbreeze is getting fairly expensive these days so we would like to figure it out rather than having that feeling of "we just spent 50 dollars to get a sub from publix"
Also, Is it better to be further back from the marker? seems like aside from the capt's ahead of us on the right/deeper channel right past that breaker wall of the park, everyone else was about 150yards behind us and then they were all spaced out at about 40 yards each.
Thanks everyone
