Greenhorn Posts: 9 02/01/12 10:49 AM	Tags : None Anyone else having trouble with catching black drum? I have tried freelining and carolina rigs with shrimp, crab, clam, fiddlers and cut mullet. Are they spawning and not really interested in feeding?

Setup around the bridge pilings or fenders in nsb and drop a silver dollar size live crab down with the tips of the carapace broken off, not much just the points to get some scent going. Crab is the best imo, shrimp live or dead is also good. Edgewater

Sea Worthy Posts: 33 02/02/12 07:47 AM	Ive had some luck at North Pier in New Smyrna. I toss half a blue crab under the bridge. Also haulover canal . I caught some big ones a couple weeks ago. I went out monday but only 2 overslot reds. They were fun but i wanted some black drum. Shrimp works good too but alot of trash fish like shrimp and it just pisses me off lol. Ive also had luck with GULP. Trash fish wont tear it up unless a crab starts chopping on it. Thats what I used at Haulover, real shrimp and crab werent working that day. Good luck

Greenhorn Posts: 9 02/02/12 11:22 AM	thanks for the intel. I usually fish the flats and haulover. I found black drum drummin and have been obsessed with getting fish in the boat I can actually take home. I use crab extensively with no luck so far.

Sea Worthy Posts: 41 02/02/12 06:51 PM	They are stacked up on the flats in big numbers. I tend to sight fish more than any thing and if I am not using the fly rod, I use live shrimp.
