For the last 2 weeks, both bait shops have been out of fiddler crabs when I want to go sheepshead fishing. I won't use shrimp due to the gazillion pin fish and other bait thieves that waste your time when targeting sheepshead. So I did a little research and found that you can gather your own crabs (shore crabs) and they are just as good and maybe even better than fiddlers for catching sheepshead and especially the bigger sheepshead. Sure, it takes more effort than being able to just walk into a bait shop and put a $10 bill on the counter and walk out with a day's worth of fiddlers, but we hard core sheepshead fisher-folks does what it takes to put these tasty fish on the table.
Here's a short video of how you can catch your own crabs and keep the sheeps in the cooler.
