I am thinking about going out saturday. Work doesn't really allow me to go out during the week. Was really thinking about Friday but the look of rain is preventing me. Any other thoughts. Oh Capt., when is the tide turning?

Oak Hill Tides For Weekend:

Friday ---------- 12:15am tides starts to go out

Saturday -------- 1:00am tide starts to go out.

I recommend scrubbing at Oak Hill, and go North from Riverbreeze ramp to CM 68 to CM 65 Edgewater area. Tide changes 1.5 to 2 hours sooner.

Friday ----------- 10:30pm

Saturday -------- 11:30pm

X2 on what Lee said about friday night. Edgewater will be crowded. Get there early and go south. The tide will run hard and the frame net should be a big help. I am tempted to drive up there.

The return back south to Jess Parrish from the RR bridge may be a little bumpy, but the shrimp should be up there.

I was planning on going out Saturday, but now my newbie brother in law is here and is able to go out on Friday. With the wind being what is I am very hesitant. I am after all in search of elusive 8" shrimp. Honestly being how new I am to this, I still only know of Riverbreeze to launch from, and then a few markers north or south to go to. If anyone would feel up to sharing a good spot for a newbie that would be great. He is going to want to just catch a bunch, even if they are little. He will learn. I call him my little grasshopper. Give him a few times of going out, and he will be after the big ones too. Good luck all.

Breaking News:

YOUR Captain is nuts.

I will be sailing the river tonight [Friday] in presuit of glory! The tides are changing about 12:15am at the ramp and up to an hour later once you cross CM 7. We will have a South wind up till 10pm blowing 10+, the wind will shift SW to WSW about 11pm - midnight. The winds then will blow 15-17+ SW to WSW all thru the early morning to sunrise. I expect the bugs to run deep, and I am gonna hope the frame net is the warrior of the night. I feel we will have some large ones move tonight.

WishIWasFishin is heading out as well.....we have discussed tactics on the phone already.

THIS could be the night they swarm....it is going to be any day now...and the water temp is in the mid 60's. In the past I have seen folks go out in the worst of times & worst winds and come home with a full pull.

I figure Saturday is way to windy, and Sunday too, and the times do not make it attractive even if you launch from Edgewater [tides change 2 hours before Oak Hill does]. The new moon is on the 15 and we are at the 3rd day before which gives us some current.

I either have to make it work tonight or not shrimp for at least a 8 - 9 days until the tides come back around....

So.

Mag, a WSW wind is not too bad, I have a box net, but rarely use it. Good luck, and if you see a little carolina skiff J14 out there, with green lights, say hi!

will do.....I think I will head out as well.....noaa's forecast for tonight looks like it improved a bit. I'll probally put in at lopez as that's about the only area i'm somewhat familiar with up there. I'm not a big fan of exploring a new area at night. damn props get expensive.

I am going to be between CM 8 and CM9. Both those areas tend to push shrimp into the light field from the West. So to me, it makes the MOST sense to go there and setup in 10 ft of water and face SW.

That's my story and I am sticking to it

As for boxnet, I am gonna toss it because I have one ... but I spent many years dipping without it. The best way to handle a chop from the South or West is to put lights concentrated and close to the boat...

So many people going out, ya all' just gave me warm fuzzies.

Left ya a voicemail Soul Pole, I will bring the fluorescent light to Riverbreeze. I cut off my minn kota plug and put on some nice shiny new 50 amp clamps. I just tested polarity, all is fine.

You need to bring a line and a weight, at least 8 lbs to sink light. I hope you got the voicemail.

Cya at the ramp! YOU WILL LOVE this light!

Makes me feel good I am passing this champ to a friend. A lot of memories go with this light, and A LOT OF LIMITS TOO.
