Yes, you can leave the cable ties on, and call it quits. This will work. I cannot guarantee how long the cable tie will last. Cable ties can snag the line as well, but this method will work. If you want to reduce the "snag", then let's proceed with the wax line step: I am using sailboat mending waxed whipping line. It came with a needle to sew canvas sails. If your using dental floss, you can go to any store and buy a upholstery needle. When the ropes was bent over the ring, it creates butterfly wings. I pinch them together and and sew line (about 10 passes) Remove the cable tie next, and whip line around and around real thick where the cable tie used to be. Tie it off real good Once you have done this to ALL rings, coat the wax thread with electrical tape. If you want more added step, use the stretchy mastic self adhesing tape and wrap around the floss, and apply a sealing coat of LIQUID electrical tape over the mastic tape. Attach the other end of the depth line to a small U shaped shackle and attach to the light. You can cut off the excess line once you secured the line to the shackle. I shorten it, and cable tie it to the main line and use mastic stretchy electrical tape and wrap the little pigtail to the main line. I leave the cable tie at the base of the knot. Posts: 503 03/03/10 10:02 PM	Gosh Lee! Please don't be mad, but here is a.........Well lets say different way. We use long line clips fastened to the light at both ends. This makes them infinitly adjustable and useable at any reasonable depth. http://www.snlcorp.com/SN...ackle/LonglineSnaps.aspx Also Mark Snell sells 6# cast iron navy anchors for <$5 per each. I use the anchors without chain and 50' of hard braid ¼" nylon. Stored on 10" Cuban yoyos they are kept in a canvas tote bag untill needed. The main boat anchor is set, then you set the navys about 15' on either side. When the boat drops back and you see how it is going to lay, you pull up and snap a light to first on one and then the other line. I roll the slack into the boat until all is set, then cleat everything off. My cost on the clips is about $0.42 each and they will hold a 200# swordfish so your light is safe. Best regards, Frankk

There is a million ways to make the adjustable depth line and I am hoping folks come forward and talk about how they rig their setups. I am SOOO HAPPY you shared your way Babe! You ROCK! THIS is what this place is about....and all I can do is show other's what I do. Is what I do the best setup? Dunno. If I catch shrimp and don't lose my gear then it works for me. There is SO much flex ability in this sport, and with that......I have seen/heard of some of the most unique clever setups & neat tricks! I have taken time to cast net shrimp during a run here. Usually when I am gigging I have only a bully net and a cast net for mullet with me, but in the spring I carry a bait net sometimes. The anchors (I have 4 types in the photo) are of various size and types. The yoyo is made of plastic and the pencil is there to show where to drill the hole so the rope can be led out of the back and secured before deploying the anchor. I wish I could post the photos to the forum. I will take a photo tomorrow (today) after I get some sleep as this is the end of my day (night). Also that is a long line clip used for droppers in deep water longline fishing. Posts: 503 03/06/10 08:36 PM	Hi Lee, I hope I am doing this right? The yoyos came from SNL Commercial Fishing Supply here in Sebastian, but they are commonly available where fishing gear is sold. I did make the lights and have been making them for a long time. We hung them under the boat while sword fishing to attract dolphin to us. Without the dolphin bycatch the swordfishing would have been a losing venture. I also had a home in the keys for 46 years and bully netted lobster at night during the colder months.

There are SO many ways to create "rigging", we are only limited by our imagination and funds usually This is what I share with people. If you are catching shrimp and your pleased with your efforts, your gear is SPOT ON and working! There are SOOO many ways to get the job down. The basics never change....You need a light, you need to control where in the water it ends up, and you need a weight for the river bottom. How people resolve these issues is a topic of fascination for me. Some people have the "gift" and vision to do it with chewing gum and concrete filled pipes, and others can over think it which guarantees nobody will ever duplicate the effort. The mid ground opens up all kinds of things. THIS is why I want people to share their rigging. If they see a few peoples rigging, they will get inspired and 9 out of 10 times IMPROVE on ours! As long as folks "get there" some how or some way, I am pleased THANK YOU for sharing!
