I am 5 foot 2 and have always tossed a 4 foot cheap Walmart made net using my teeth. Today, I picked up my Ed Shumaker net and I was taught this new cast net method that had me overthrowing a 6 foot net. He gave me an 8 foot net and I deployed the net like I have done it my whole life. So, the Capt. gave me a 10 foot net, and I deployed the net without much effort.
It is not often I get one of those "Aw Ha Moments" in my life, and learning how to deploy a Shumaker Net by the Master himself was life changing. It took me all of 5 minutes to understand it and I have been shown how to throw a net by many members and just cannot do it...
Today, Capt Shumaker changed my life....here is some video footage of the Master himself.
Next year I will purchase an 8 foot net, I practiced today and I still over power the 6 foot net. It is gonna take me some time to learn to throw more lazy and pull back with this new method. I throw the net out to far....I am to strong as Ed says for a 6 foot net...who knew I would ever give up m,y 4 footer. My net is 6 foot, 6 lbs. The quality is without words, top notch. The line attached has some magic to it...it tightens to the wrist and can be loosened to take off...he thought of everything.
I also was taught by Capt Ed to throw level and not up in the air. Man, I was working to hard to toss a 4 footer, it is a joy to do the shoulder method now..no wear and tear on me. I was using way to much energy to steer the 4 footer, and note how easy the Capt tosses this blue 10 foot net. It is that easy....
I am so excited to hammer the bait pods now too....I am going to buy an 8 foot mullet net now......Having ruptured disc's in my neck, no abdominal muscles [8 surgeries], shoulder joint injury --Capt Ed gave me a safe way to throw a net and yield more shrimp & bait at the same time.
Priceless.
