Hi Mag great thread.
About a month ago we were at CM 65 in Edgewater I was in the rear of the boat and I see this large object coming at me. OMG I have always been afraid of birds especially dead birds. Well it was a DEAD PELICAN, it not only hit the side of the boat it got caught on the ladder behind me and I freaked. I wouldn't even touch it with my pole, so the Captain came to the rescue and broke it free. STANKIE |

Weirdest thing I ever SENT down the river was a brown submarine....don't ya just hate when that happens while your out on the river all anchord up, lights deployed & shrimp swarming? I always wondered if I hit a bullseye in somebody's frame net.
OH. OH. OH. The weirdest thing, I ever SAW in my light field? In 2006, I was dipping with 2 friends from ISAA, Debby and Frank...and a full size picnic table came rushing at Frank's boat with a strong current. He was able to deflect the table from striking the hull. We did not see it until seconds before impact. I asked him if that is a considered a "limit", and nobody answered me, go figure. I catch squid, have caught ballyhoo, filefish, trumpetfish, flounder and lots of other strange stuff. I eat the squid and use the ballyhoo for bait. Everything else goes back in after a quick look. Pretty cool when the waters clear you see lots of kooky stuff.

We get sea horses every year .....baby flounder, mantis shrimp, and the most precious is little 1 inch shrimp! We got this sea horse about a week ago. It was already dead before we discovered it. It was caught in the frame net.

I have to contribute here and as a few of you know that was my picnic table.
But here is the story I want to relate. There was once an old curmudgen fisherman that lived in Sebastian. His initials were A.M. and every other Sebastian fisherman knows well just who that is...er was. He hated the marine patrol and fishing regs of any kind and often did things he knew to be unlawful just to do them. He was also very intelligent and resourceful. One night while being persued by the marine patrol and his nemisis Jay Mills. (a real first class officer by the way) He ran his boat inside the old inlet (it is just north of the existing one and too shallow to enter except on high tide) Hid it in the mangroves and started walking south toward Wabasso in what was to become A1A. He got south of black point and saw a picking light out several hundred yards in the river. It was....lets say deacon John here as he yet dwells in out little community. Well, John hears a voice calling his name out in the river at 3 am. He hasn't seen or heard another boat or light since right after dark. "John i'm coming" it says. Well John says "I hear you Lord" and falls to his knees and starts to recite the Lord's prayer. Now this much I can tell you, but here A.M.'s account varies from deacon John's in regard to what was said when he saw A.M. standing in neck deep water asking for a ride across the river. Later the next morning A.M.'s son enlisted the aid of my fishing partner of many years to search for his father A.M. as he hadn't returned from fishing the night before and his boat was missing. After a long search by boat and automobile they found A.M.asleep in his own bed. (the last place they expected to find him. The sequel to this story is the marine patrol found A.M.'s boat and took it to Titusville, but had to return it the next day as A.M. had reported it stolen. To the very best of my knowledge every word of what I have told is true.. Except of course for the picnic table. Best regards, Frankk |

I dipped a couple of the finger mullet the other night that the dolphins were chasing. They had them pushed right up to the boat. I thought that i had shrimpzilla the other night in my light field. He was swimming against the current and when I first say him I wasn't sure what to do. After about 30 sec he comes within dipping range and I saw it was a massive mantis shrimp. He looked 7-8 inches but i'm no expert. I didn't net him because i wasn't sure what to do with him after i got him :)

Frankk! THAT was great! I love stories like that and of course who would not "swoon" after a "bad boy" story! THAT was great, and what a great way to do something "signature" like that to the marine patrol. That was the ultimate finger!
![]() Would they expect anything less than from A.M? ![]() Thanks for that great story! ![]() Come to think of it, I think I saw you eating at the picnic table as it rolled down the river USCG Licensed [OUPV/6 pak] - Captain 100% Disabled Vet E-5/USN Medic |

They can flick that tail at the speed of a bullet. That size is a enough to hurt ya, and you can get them near 10-12 inches in the river. They are NOT good eating. Encourage the little b'tard to go back into the river...USCG Licensed [OUPV/6 pak] - Captain 100% Disabled Vet E-5/USN Medic |
