I am not a trap guy myself, have no clue who makes the best, or the best materials, but my understanding is that bait is not used, and many trappers start later in the season and work the bridges in Titusville all through the summer. They sink the traps along the seawall, and the shrimp enter without bait.
Fishinbro is a trap shrimper, maybe he has some more info. I will bug him to come out of the mud. lol Mike |

I am not a trap guy either, but I have seen several vendors selling them at flea markets. These are normally new galvanized traps made by the seller or a friend. To me, they all look almost alike in design. Like Mike said, fishinbro probably has a wealth of knowledge about shrimp traps. I have often wished I had either plans or an actual trap to replicate.

yeah, i've been seeing them around myself and that's what got this thread started. would hate to spend a couple hundred bucks on enough for me and my boys and end up having better bird catchers than shrimp catchers.
personally i don't see why an old fish rack or two wouldn't work in a trap. shrimp do eat dead fish right? |

May 6, 2009, ISAA Smilemaker wrote the following.
"I have a phone number for anyone interested in purchasing some shrimp traps-these are HIGH grade-i have 4 of them now and I am buying 4 more-so u can either purchase my 4 or buy new ones-mine are $15 each and the new ones are about $35@ or 4 for $140-I'm picking up 4 new traps Wed night-she will deliver them right to the seawall-if u want her number its 321-452-7612 and tell her Bob sent u -her name is Mai (MY)" Smilemaker is the ISAA guy to go to for using traps. He's out at the 528 seawall all summer long. I've seen these traps and they are very good. Smilemaker is one of my regular shrimping buddies on my boat. |

Smilemaker is trying to join us over here but is having signup problems, and I do not know if he has tried to resolve them or where that stands...

Aloha... just an FYI, I am still NOT able to log onto this site either on my Toshiba laptop, however I have no problems on my DELL desktop running the exact same s/w (what I am using right now)!?!?! I have been doing all kinds of trial/errors with the techies at YUKU to no avail yet! I am wondering if others that cannot log in are using TOSHIBA PCs (trying to isolate to a common denominator!). Hopefully, YUKU will figure out what the problem is. Aloha, John

Signing up was confusing, but I have been using both my laptop and PC to access the forums. However, YUKA suggests using Mozilla Firefox as your browser, and notes that Internet Explorer must be version 6 or newer. I use Firefox and had no problems.

The only anomaly that I encountered while signing up was a refusal because I had to be 13 to join? I tried a later birthdate and then corrected the original later.
I know Bob from ISAA as I was one of the early members there. He should sign up as I know he loves to shrimp. Best regards, Frankk |

Aloha John!
NO feedback from Yuku yet? I saw some mainstream nicks on my site so I assumed it was the Yuku help desk....I was expecting to hear you tell me things are fixed! John, uses FireFox [current 3.6] on his laptop that chokes on this site. I know Yuku can handle action, they have sites that get 100,000 people a day. Every site from what I see has people that cannot sign-up. I see on other sites, they have area that say...LOL..."Don't contact the board owner, if you are having problems contact Yuku help desk". This tells me the sign-up process is a global mis-step to some. I know Yuku pushed out some code upgrades, and I think they broke the product. But, what I also noticed. Folks who really want to be here, find a way .... USCG Licensed [OUPV/6 pak] - Captain 100% Disabled Vet E-5/USN Medic |
