Boats engines are meant to be run run.
I live in Deltona, and doing 60 mile round trip to work the engine is a little costly. My gas mileage plummets during the tow and I calculated it costs me $15 everytime I take the boat to be launched in NSB. Sure, I could launch the boat in a local Deltona lake but I am not sure how good the launch area's are with all the dirt and mud. Yes, I could go to Sanford but I do not know the waterway, and that puts me off....
So, here is a 100 gallon cow water basin. I built a 7" tall platform [mimic'd a furniture dolly with wheel casters]. A furniture dolly did not get me 7 inches so I made mine out of pressure treated 1x4, cost me about $50. The water basin can be bought at feeds stores or Tractor Supply stores for anywhere between $80 and up. You can try Craigslist but I have a hydrofoil on my engine and a 55 gallon drum would not work for me.
Running your engine with ears more than 5 mins is NOT a good idea. The Yamaha mechanics tell me all the time, to run the boat at least 20 mins, and to put a load on it [put it in gear] while in the tub. Do NOT get the hose in the way.
It came with a plug which I bored out with spade bit and it fits a regular 1 inch boat plug. Some times if no rain is coming, I cover the basin and leave the engine submerged in the water.
