Reports are that folks are dipping off structures, they said it is worth their while but they will not talk about the exact amounts of their harvest. I plan on
showing up at some of these hot spots to get a first hand report from several popular structures.

Hi Specialist!
They are dipping at the New Smyrna Beach pier under the causeway. They hang out there at night when the tide is outgoing. Look at the tide forum, add 2 hours to the tide and that is about right for that pier. They measure their harvest in "Quantity Caught". Folks been getting 100+ but also deploying a frame net [collapsible on]. Where did you have in mind? Maybe I can get more info for that area. Hello Lee,
I'm not quite sure. I'm currently boatless, but I have all of my own gear. I had a neighbor take me out about a week ago, but that was the first time I've been out in two years. I'm thinking about trying to find somewhere to go without a boat. I live in South Daytona. Many years ago, my brother-in-law took me to a campground I believe was a little north of Riverbreeze where the woman rented space at her dock. If you have some suggestions that could help, I'm all ears. |

Folks dip at Lopez trailer park. Boats are allowed to launch for $5 and you do NOT have to be a resident of trailer park. Folks dip right off their pier at Oak Hill Lopez trailer park. For pier use, I do NOT know if you have to pay $5, free to residents only, or open to anyone. They have an office on premise there. I would give them a call you can dip several gallons. Sometimes I anchor up 20 yards from that pier and they are squealing. Well, I am kinda too....but that is my favorite place in March and April. I have always said, if my boat fails, I am dipping off Lopez Pier.
Give them a call! See if you can dip from their pier. USCG Licensed [OUPV/6 pak] - Captain 100% Disabled Vet E-5/USN Medic |

Boatless but determined, presently I do all my dipping at the pier under the bridge in New Smyrna. I use 2 floating lights with 100 watt 12volt incandescent bulbs with a Sprite bottle around them and a REEEEEALY long handle on my net. I have been there the past 3 nights and got about a half gallon per night mostly mediums with about 60 large ones. Will definitely be there again tonight, have to get there early to stake out a good spot it's likely to be abit crowded tonight. Some folks do use frame nets there. Y'all come by and visit sometime. Hoping ZILLA decides to take a trip north and find's my lights. |

You're a candidate that could use one of the LED Greenies to do a better job of seeing the shrimp from your pier spot. One of the LED greenies will replace both of your incandescents and not suck the juice out of your heavy batteries. The LED Greenie draws just about 12 watts or 1 amp hour per hour use.. The smallest auto battery will do just fine.
Your prolly using 2 lights because the shrimp spook and try to run between the ligts. The LED Greenie doesn't spook shrimp, and they even drift over the light due to the LED's unique light pattern. You'll also see shrimp that your neighbors can't see to dip. Check it out at the Oak Hill Fea Market on US1, Sunday 7-12. Look for Ron Obrien and his nets. I'll be there too this week. |

shrimpcraz wrote:Shrimpcraz, your posting just fine! Great to see you in print! What would we do without our little genius ones to help us get past the computer scary's! Man, that really blows that Lopez stopped the pier shrimping. Their piers are 24 inches from the water, so you can dip awesome over rails without much effort. That explains why the piers are always deserted. I noticed this year nobody is ever dipping there, and they were last season. What a shame. Did Lopez have any other recommendations? Ok, my next suggestion is Riverbreeze ramp entrance..there is a trailer park, and they have a seawall on the intercoastal. I have seen folks dip off that, and many boats like to dip there because the shrimp boil to the top in front of the white house. 298 H H Burch Road Oak Hill, FL 32759-9782 (386) 345-3922 Call them, and see if you can....and if not, ask where? Just recently, I saw folks dipping. Do ask, if people do Ok at the seawall. I am not sure of the personal liability issues...the insurance thing may be another reason why they do not let people dip...I would also set some traps if he approves the seawall thing. Let me know how that goes ![]() USCG Licensed [OUPV/6 pak] - Captain 100% Disabled Vet E-5/USN Medic |

Does anyone know anything about the Indian Mound Fish Camp just to the north of the Riverbreeze ramps? I see a nice dock on their website that according to Google Earth appears to be right at the edge of the channel in that portion of the river. I've tried to call them a couple of times and haven't been able to get an answer. They also have a cabin they rent at a pretty good rate that looks cute on the computer.
