Has anyone tried this method in the Oak Hill and Titusville areas? Since cast netting has been producing such good results and the shrimp are reportedly running deep, why could one not have the same success using a frame net set deep in the water? Is this method more productive on an incoming tide or an outgoing tide? I am very intrigued by this method of shrimping but know absolutely nothing about it. Any comments will be appreciated. Capt's Pet Posts: 211 08/13/10 09:27 AM	Thanks, Glenda. I had read the thread that Mike started last week, but apparently none of our members have tried it. One of my friends and I were discussing it over dinner last night and he is enthused about the idea, too. He is a regular on Wednesday nights under the 528 bridge but went for the last time last week for the summer. Very few shrimp to be had shrimp to be had along the seawall. Once Oak Hill (or Titusville) reports start coming in, we will be out there. BTW, he and another friend have been going to the Titusville pier at night. Catfish up to about 6 pounds and other "junk" fish only. He has caught nothing there in his shrimp traps.

Sea Worthy Posts: 77 08/13/10 04:35 PM - 11 Limits 2010	Sleepless You can try it but i don't think it will work for you. #1Curent is not strong enough to open the net or hold them in the net. #2The day time shrimp aren't moveing with the tide they wander all over the place #3 When your on the shrimp you can catch more in two casts than your frame net will catch all night. Capt's Pet Posts: 211 08/13/10 05:32 PM	Thanks for the comments, mudbucket. You could very well be right about the weak current, especially at the RR bridge in Titusville. My frame net has worked well there on a few occasions but normally there is inadequate flow. Your second comment is very helpful. I assumed that most of the shrimp would follow the flow of the water. Your third comment brought a smile to my face. I never mastered the art of throwing a cast net, and now I may physically be unable to learn. So, I guess I will be waiting for the return of the dippin' season and save my frame net efforts for then, too. Thanks again.

Posts: 533 08/13/10 08:16 PM	One more thing I would mention is the shrimp in the St. John's and Halifax rivers are white shrimp. They have different behavior than the ones we seek. We are in the estuaries which have brown, pink, pink spotted with some whites thrown in. My seines have 1"square/2" stretch mesh, but I catch large whites, pinks and browns here in Sebastian area year round. Frankk
