I have never been shrimping which is strange in that it is my most favorite food in the world and I live less than 20mi from the best shrimping grounds in Fl. I hope to learn from you. As soon as the weather starts to cool and I can get some gear together I will go out and try my luck stalking the wily other white meat. Posts: 1043 07/25/10 11:15 AM - 4 Limits 2011	Just about anyone over here can show ya the ropes on shrimping, from getting your adrenaline going with photos of the harvest, to gear selections that will be suited to your type of shrimping, be it from the wall on land, in a boat dipping, or daytime with a castnet. Come on in take a look around and you'll find that we get pretty creative in chasing just about any salt water harvest, and manage to have a pretty good time doing it. Plenty of intel and knowlege abound in the ranks so don't be shy. If life is measured by family and friends, I am the wealthiest woman in the world!

Posts: 1043 07/25/10 11:28 AM - 4 Limits 2011	I live in Oak Hill and it's like living at Heaven's gate! You will certainly enjoy the shrimp fever, the hotter the better! Course our shrimp runs in the river down here are starting up as early as Dec., but have been know to have sporadic bursts of activity as early as Sept one year I recall. The bigger runs seem to occur in March and April but even a 3 gallon pull is often available much earlier. Just remember YGTGTK ( you got to go to know ) can be bypassed with good intel from the forum. If life is measured by family and friends, I am the wealthiest woman in the world!

We will make darn sure we increase your pulls! What is great about our community is we dial into the shrimp movement and this helps you plan when to go to get the best chances of a good harvest. I for one am into about $25 of gas to go shrimping, so I expect a decent return on my efforts. We have so many shrimpers we get great updated reports of where they are being spotted and best time to try to out smart em' too. The winter shrimping [the brown and pink shrimp] is a night time venture and mostly an outgoing tide event. The summer time the "white shrimp" are running during the day towards the inlet from Ormond down thru Daytona, this is cast netting. This is the window as time marches on they are getting smaller. Shrimp run when they want to but we have hundreds of years of combined experience in this place and we all love to chase! We had newbies that did not shrimp at the beginning of the season [Dec-June] and before it ended in June, got their first 5 gallon limits ever and received their website trophy at our annual BBQ [will be in April or 1st wk of May in 2011]. Now, they are seasoned vets. There is no doubt, we will put you on the shrimp. As for equipment we can give you a dream list of items, as well as the practical and affordable list...this is the ultimate equipment list. Dip Net: Call him & Buy it from cAPT Ron [Deltona], get the fence added to the hoop (386)574-zero, three, eight, six Collapsible box net: cAPT Ron [Deltona] --$100 LED Shrimp Lites: From NiteOwl , can be ordered at LED Greenie -- $130 ea [need 2 to 3] Practical List: Halogen based lights - Star fires for $13 each, you need to add wire and make PVC frame to keep them out away from boat Cecil's Bait - Halogen $49 each, nice wire length...[New Smyrna Beacch, N. Causeway bait store Dip Net - Cecil's or Anchor Hardware in Oak Hill, or on Craigslist for $40 Halogen lights burn up battery power quickly....need several good batteries. Flourescents - not cost effective to buy retail if you can find professional ones, look for folks selling theirs used that upgraded to LED LED's, very low battery consumption, LED is the state of the art and the way to go. Equipment is a personal decision, and folks can limit with the ultimate or cost effective equipment... Posts: 3513 07/25/10 12:03 PM - 1 Limits 2012 - 4 Limits 2011	Welcome Aboard Folkie, If you cant find flotation, You're welcome to join us pier warriors at the pier under the South Causeway bridge in New Smyrna, It's a little tougher than from a boat (18 ft net handle) but definitely doable. Fellow member Specialist and myself were getting 2 to 4+ plus gallons a night this past season. We'll be glad to show you the ins and outs of this whacky sport.

As for teachers, last season I helped a couple different people get accustomed to the sport. I don't have a boat, but I can go on yours or as shrimpcraz stated we can bring you up to the pier and help you from that environment. Each method has its own idiosyncrasies, but nothing too taxing. Most of us on this board have a real passion for what we do and we love to pass it on.

Have no fear folkie, you live so close to me, no doubt I will take you out this coming season, I like to go 4-6 times a month...split the gas money, and off we go, no other costs...as one of my shrimping partners I won't have to "kill ya" once I show you my favorite areas to chase... I can see you now...first night you go out, you bag a monster and lead the longest shrimp tourney! Our sponsors donate the ULTIMATE equipment as prizes, we have the LED Greenies and cAPT Ron's nets! I will do 2 to 3 on-line tourney's [Jan - April], and then we get together for our tent city BBQ, [pics are in the activity and events forum from our 1st one this year].
