Sea Worthy Posts: 28 08/13/11 10:29 AM	Tags : None HI EVERYONE, TOOK MY NEW TO ME YAMAHA 9.9 TO RUN AROUND THE LAKE TODAY, MOUNTED IT TO MY VERY UNSTABLE 12FT JOHNBOAT. AFTER ABOUT 10 MINUTES I PUT THE HAMMER DOWN, IT WAS PURRING GREAT, WENT TO REPOSITION MY GRIP, AND WAM IT HAPPENED. THE BOAT TOOK A 9G TURN TO THE RIGHT, I TOOK A 9G TURN TO THE LEFT, AND MY MOTOR HEADED OFF INTO THE SUNSET STILL RUNNING. AFTER I CAUGHT MY BREATH, AND MY BOAT, I HAD A VERY PEACEFUL 1HR DRIFT BACK TO THE DOCK, BECAUSE IM TO DAMM OLD TO CLIMB BACK IN, AND OVERWEIGHT. I HAVE A PRETTY GOOD IDEA WHERE IT IS, ITS A MUD BOTTOM, IN BETWEEN 6' TO 8' OF WATER. I HAVE TRIED THE FISH FINDER, UNDERWATER METALDETECTOR, NEXT WILL BE A PIECE OF FIELD FENCE DRAGGED . IF ANYBODY HAS ANY OTHER IDEAS PLEASE LET ME KNOW. IT HAS ONLY BEEN DOWN FOR 2 DAYS, SO I HAVE TIME TO LOCATE IT. THANKS AND GOOD FISHING TO ALL. KEN

I have this huge magnet that I dragged in the area and latched on to it after 20 passes. The only other thing I can think of is using is giant treble hooks across a bar. Sea Worthy Posts: 28 08/13/11 06:11 PM	update on lake motor, i located some old trawl netting today, going to do a slow drag and maybe get lucky and snag it, if anything hits the leading steel pipe i should feel it, i"ll throw a marker bouy, and go back and probe it. will have to wait till sunday afternoon to try, to much boat traffic, and i dont want anybody to figure out that im looking for something. p.s, thanks for the replies everyone. ken

Posts: 509 08/14/11 10:26 AM	Do not put a trawl overboard without checking with the FWC. It is a felony offense to do so where I live. If you know about where it is, drag a rebar about ten feet wide between two lines off the transom. One of the the lines must be steel. You can feel and sometimes hear when you hit it with the drag by keeping your hand on the steel cable. It can be a very small cable about 3/16" or so. As soon as you think you feel it throw a marking buoy on it and probe it with a pole. A hook made of rebar with a "V" shape hook can catch the lower unit by the propeller end. Wish I were near as I could help. It's not easy, but you can do it. Careful of gators. Frankk

Sea Worthy Posts: 28 08/14/11 08:31 PM	hi everyone, i am in deland, the lake is lake dias on hwy 11. the rebar trick sounds great, im going to try tomorrow morning. the diving is going to be a no go, very dark water and lots of gators. the side sonar sounds awesome, when i got thrown out of the boat i tried to get my location, so i have it in about a football field area, i know thats a lot, but i was trying to save my life first. if i cant locate with the dragging, maybe i can get your number and we can try the side sonar, i would be glad to cover your expenses. i want to thank all of you with tryng to help me with this. ken

Sea Worthy Posts: 34 08/19/11 03:46 PM	If you do find the motor get suggestions on how to dry it out immediately or you may have issues with bearings and rust if not done correctly. there are probably better ways but an old trick is to submerse the motor again in a drum and put a thin layer of oil in the water to help seal it until you can dismantle or get it running again. good luck and please ask for the best way to handle it when you do recover the motor

Sea Worthy Posts: 28 08/19/11 06:27 PM	i will do that, if were lucky enough to locate it, i'll pull the plugs, carb, and spray it down with wd40, then the aircompressor to blow out the water, have sunk several 4 wheelers, if you get the water out it should be ok. hope it just hydrolocked the cylinders. thanks ken
