(I ain't no geenyus ya knoe...)

Why don't we start out with a basic shrimp life history

All penaeid shrimps have much the same life cycle. Spawning usually occurs in the ocean from near the beaches to several miles offshore. A single female produces between 500,000 and 1,000,000 eggs and may spawn several times.

During mating, the male transfers a packet of sperm, called a spermatophore, to the female. Brown and pink shrimps mate when the female’s exoskeleton is still soft immediately after molting. The spermatophore is covered over by two “plates” that hold it in place. Spawning in the species may take place days later. Mating of white shrimp occurs...

After seeing the difference first hand in the amount of shrimp netted with webbing vs no webbing I decided to tape my net.
I went to Wally world(Wal-Mart) and bought a roll of 30yd automobile duct tape (cost about $5) for an eight ft net. Auto duct tape is more durable and last longer in out door elements. More than likely it will out last my net.

I started out by laying the net across my lap and placing the tape about 4-5 inches above the lead line. Once the front was done I took a short piece of shelving and pu it across my lap for support when applying tape to the backside. The firm surface helped to keep the net tight and from other parts of the net sticking to the tape. It took about an hour and its ready to go.

I'm planning on trying it out tomorrow at big tree. I will post afterwards and let you know how it worked out. My brother-in-law will be with me (no webbing) so we should see the difference up close and personal.
Cast netter - Shrimping

I read this, what do you think .

Daytime Shrimping

If you prefer to keep banker's hours, then daytime shrimping is for you. During the day shrimp concentrate in the deep river channels in nearly 20 feet of water. Often the schools can be spotted with a good quality fish finder. Alternatively, you can look for a gathering of boats whose occupants are crazy enough to repeatedly throw cast nets in the heat of the day! Often you can see this fleet at work as you cross the Highway 17 bridge in Palataka.

The secret to catching daytime shrimp, after you have located them, is to have modified your cast net so that it opens fully while sinking to depths of 20 feet. This means two modifications: (1) extending the length of the retrieval line so the net will reach bottom without being pulled closed and (2) applying duct tape or lawn furniture webbing to the net, just inside the lead line, to cause it to fan open as it sinks. Once you have done this and have located...

Any critique will likely be ignored as I will always be a work in progress, although I do try to improve. First off I am very well versed in the laws as it affects boating and fishing. (recreational and commercial) I also respect and obey each and every one to the best of my ability.

I was cruising the inlet flat about ½ mile southwest of the inlet trying to skip a pompano by sweeping my spotlight across the water periodically. (not exactly in stealth mode) It was a full moon and overhead at that, so I saw a large boat approaching with no lights. It was the FWC and at about 100' away, they hit me with the spot light and flashed the blues on at the same time. I waved and shut down waiting for them to come over. They asked what I was doing and said they wanted to do a safety check. I said okay and pulled my pfd with a strobe light and whistle as well...
