Next year the summer tournaments will be longest shrimp contests. I am guilty of not doing much fishing this summer.
Shrimp is the single most popular seafood in the United States. The average American consumes over 4½ pounds a year. And yes, the cholesterol count is high (about 200 milligrams in 3½ ounces), but that is a deceptive figure. Since the fat content of shrimp is so low (barely 1 gram per serving, as opposed to around 20 grams for an equal amount of beef) and saturated fat increases the absorption of cholesterol in the body, the cholesterol in shrimp is not fully absorbed. Studies have shown that shrimp actually improves the ratio of “good” cholesterol to “bad” cholesterol, and its high levels of unsaturated fatty acids may even contribute to lowered cholesterol levels.

(I ain't no geenyus ya knoe...)

Why don't we start out with a basic shrimp life history

All penaeid shrimps have much the same life cycle. Spawning usually occurs in the ocean from near the beaches to several miles offshore. A single female produces between 500,000 and 1,000,000 eggs and may spawn several times.

During mating, the male transfers a packet of sperm, called a spermatophore, to the female. Brown and pink shrimps mate when the female’s exoskeleton is still soft immediately after molting. The spermatophore is covered over by two “plates” that hold it in place. Spawning in the species may take place days later. Mating of white shrimp occurs...

Well, went back to CW under US 40 again. Four days after the full moon, not a good idea. Shrimping very slow. Got like 30 is all. Using the traps I made. The bigger traps caught most of the shrimp. One small trap only got two all night. Place was so crowed. Guess the words out about the shrimp running. Saw a lot of new nets and new faces. One guy who was there last Saturday. told me he was there Friday night and got 1/2 a pull. That night after 4 hours he only had 1/4 pull. Couldn't test the lights the way I wanted, too many peeps. Got bored tried fishing. Got one rod setup to get bait. Has 3 #12 hooks on it. Used a small maybe 1/4" piece of shrimp. dropped it in the water not 10 second later got the first bait fish. Too small to eat to big to use as bait.
